The late Pat Egan

-

The death took place on Monday, November 29 of Patrick (Patsy) Egan from Moneen, Glanworth who passed away, peacefully, at Cork University Hospital after a short illness.

Patsy’s funeral cortege travelled to Holy Cross Church via Egan’s Cross and, en route, neighbours and friends stood and paid their respects. Following reception into Holy Cross Church, Glanworth on Thursday, Requiem Mass was followed by interment in St Dominic’s Cemetery.

Former TD Ned O’Keeffe, paid him the following tribute:

“Pat Egan had a life span of 67 years. He was born at Moneen, Glanworth in the area better known as Egan’s Cross, into a nationally minded family. His father Denis RIP, died when Pat was only 6 years of age.

“Pat took up employment with Cork County Council in the Roads Department at an early age and was a very committed and dedicated employee, always willing to help and very conscientious in his job. He was a very humorous person.

“When I met Pat he was a member of Mitchelstown Fianna Fáil Cumann. He took a keen interest in politics both at national and local level. He regularly attended meetings, canvassed at elections and was always good to bring political matters to my attention. Pat was also a regular Mass-goer and always willing to help with the church collections.

“The turnout at his funeral was synonymous with his popularity. He will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends, neighbours and former work colleagues.

“May the green sod of his native Glanworth lay rightly on his breast.”

Patsy is sadly missed by his brothers Tom, Jimmy and Raymond, his sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours, friends and his former colleagues in Cork County Council, to who we express our deepest sympathy.
