Progress on Rathcormac service station
Developments to the new Rathcormac Service Station have picked up speed and last week, locals got their first proper glimpse of the new facility as hoarding erected around the site was taken down and replaced with fencing.
While the station was meant to be complete for August or September of 2020, the Covid19 pandemic and associated restrictions essentially put the development on hold.
Original planning granted to O’Sullivan Forecourts in 2019 allowed for the demolition of all structures on site, and the construction of a two-storey service station of 280 square metres. This included a retail area of 80sq metres, an ancillary hot food deli and food preparation area, a toilet on the ground floor, an ancillary office, storage and a staff area on the upper floor.
A canopy with illuminated corporate signage and two fuel pump locations along with 12 car parking spaces, an electric car charging point, and bicycle stands were also included in the original application.
Further planning permission was also approved this year for the development by Cork Cork Council for some modifications to the original planning and an expansion to include an additional fuel dispenser and new air, water and vacuum services.
Development on site has progressed since the phased reopening and recommencement of the construction industry and builders have been on-site regularly.
Local councillor William O’Leary welcomed the development to the Rathcormac area.
“It’s progressing at a very good speed and hopefully it will be open in the not too distant future,” Cllr O’Leary said
