‘Light up your village’ a success in Kilworth
There is little chance that the man in the red suit will miss the village of Kilworth on December 25, all thanks to the Lights Committee who have detangled the fairy lights, replaced broken bulbs and have unabashedly, pierced the night skies with their picture-postcard festive lights.
This year, in addition to Kilworth Community Council’s continued generous funding, the Lights Committee reached out to local businesses with the ‘Light Up Your Village’ campaign.
The One Stop Home Store, Fermoy started the ball rolling by becoming our first sponsor with a very generous contribution.
“We were soon overwhelmed with the unending support of local businesses and private individuals that came out in numbers to help fund our endeavour,” a spokesperson said.
Sponsorship then rolled in from Aim High Montessori, Bedina’s, Carmel’s Garden Centre, Cathal O’Meara Architects, Centra Kilworth, Collins O’Brien Accountants, Collins O’Meara Auctioneers Valuers & Estate
Agents, Cotter’s Bar, Fiona Turley Artist, Ger Hennessy Hair Studio, JDC Accounting, Donal Kenneally KDC, Little Oaks Preschool, Mitchelstown Dental Clinic, O’Meara Dental, Square Garden, Specsavers Mallow and Sanmina.
This year the Lights Committee have extended the display up through the village with four additional trees being beautifully lit up and the twinkling lights of the four welcoming trees gently lead you into the village.
The area outside the playground has some new festive attractions also. More reindeer can be seen leaping and prancing at the playground and a cheerful “Merry Christmas” decoration welcomes you.
If you look closely at the tree outside the playground, you will see a set of robins perched around the Christmas postbox.
On the village green, the winter bare trees have been dazzled in magical, white lights to rival any fairytale. Giant baubles dangle in a luscious, Christmas-red sparkle from ‘the Presidential tree’.
The exquisitely crafted crib, positioned in the heart of the village green, encases the Holy
Family and the beautiful figures bathed in a golden light depict the story of Christmas and the joy that it brings.
The nostalgic golden glow continues at The Remembrance Tree, the Holm oak, outside the playground with its wrap-around bench, making this a lovely spot to sit, reflect and remember our loved ones.
“It is a wonderful sight to see families and friends taking the time each night to enjoy walking around the village, taking festive photographs and admiring the twinkling lights. No doubt they bring comfort and wonder to all,” a spokesperson added.
Special thanks were extended to William Hegarty, Dion Cahill and company who were monumental in putting up the lights. Tom O’Brien, Roche Metal Works and Manning Engineering who all helped with The Remembrance Tree. “Their commitment and support is another example of the wonderful spirit of this closeknit community,” the spokesperson added.
Members of the
Lights Committee were also thanked including Liam Magnier, Kieran Quinn, Martina Keane, Aoife Roche, Jack Quirke and Sarah O’Brien. Please check out the Kilworth Community Facebook page for the video of the lights.
“Kilworth Community Council and the Lights Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their benevolence and community spirit and to wish everyone a joyful and safe Christmas,” the spokesperson concluded.
