FERMOY MARKET GOES FESTIVE

- JOHN AHERN

Despite everything, it’s been an eventful and busy year for those involved in the Fermoy Outdoor Market which is based in the grounds of Richmond House, off Richmond Hill (Walker’s Hill) in Fermoy.

The market was rebranded as a Christmas craft market last weekend – a move that proved popular with the public. A lot of regular stall holders attended, along with some new recruits. It was an ‘inside/outside’ format and this worked really well.

THE REAL MAN WITH THE BEARD

With respect to market supremo, Fiachra O Cinneide, the R.E.A.L. man with the beard, is of course, none other than Santa Claus. Fr. Christmas himself was in situ last Friday evening and glad to report, he received a fantastic welcome.

With so many Covid related cancellations of events, children were worried he might not turn up – they need not have fretted. Santa, complete with his famous list, was on hand to meet, greet and chat with youngsters of all ages.

WHAT’S WITH THE PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES?

Carrots for Rudolph, that’s fair enough, but peanut butter sandwiches for the reindeer leader, that’s odd. Odd it might be, but that was the directive issued by Santa at the craft market last weekend – peanut butter sandwiches for the red nosed one and plenty of them! The kids seemed happy enough to comply, so expect peanut butter sales in Fermoy to rocket.

A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

Well done to everyone associated with last weekend’s market – there was an unmistakeable festive feel to proceedings, with carol singers adding to the pre-Christmas atmosphere.

NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS

Fiachra and his team thank all those who’ve supported the market during 2021. The message is to keep turning up and continue to spread the word.
