Parish of Lismore and Ballysaggart news
It seems that it will be a case that you will have to book your seat in the churches for your participation in the Masses at Christmas. No firm decision has been taken, but reading the signs of the progress of Covid-19 we are all in unchartered waters.
We keep faith in the public health experts who are guiding us as best they can. It seems we may not have a ‘normal Christmas’ whatever that may mean. Spending at Christmas is done by the less well off financially. The true rich do not spend at all, so is it time that significant taxes be imposed on the mega rich. You who read this column may well be much more familiar with various theories of economics. Of course economics is an exercise in Christian justice.
We all interpret how we live our lives from what we take our lives to be about. We who believe in life, love relationship are very much aware of all that diminish our love of life. We see such much life being squandered in sinful living. The language of sin is real only to those who have conscience and a sense of objective morality. We know we are not the measure of morality in ourselves, but must look outside ourselves for that morality, we see it in the law of God.
The law of God is so positive in every aspect of personal and social life. We know that the relationships in our lives is what gives colour and energy to our lives. Some think that it is knowledge, professionalism, possessions that matter. It is relationships. We know that the future of the human race depends on love, our love intertwined in divine love.
Our feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blesssed Virgin Mary, Mother of God can teach us about the greatness that is ours. If you can try to participate in Mass on this feast day.
Our week end Mass engages us to consider where there is joy and gladness in our own lives. The theme of our Mass that we can be joyful for the Lord’s coming is close and the celebration of his birth is near. You who pray the Angelus every day helped by hearing the call to prayer on RTE tv and radio know that meaning of the Angelus. It is a prayerful reflection of the Incarnation,
God becoming man. The Incarnation, the word made flesh lived among us. All human life is drawn into the Incarnation. Understanding the Universal Christ is truly good news for all.
Thanks to you who are generous in supporting your priests and bishops along with caring for the many priests now retired and those who are in poor health. Please be as generous and appreciative as you can in the Christmas collection. With participation at Sunday Mass the way it is, it’s so important to respond to this opportunity to financially support your priests.
