A cracker of a Christmas tournament thanks to Paul O’Driscoll Auctioneers
The Christmas Cracker tournament is a 4 tournament event run over 14 days. Three nights of tennis with a final on each night, night two marking our beginners ladies first foray into tournament play. A new format for tournaments as we know it can be difficult to commit to welly matches in December so the idea came to give members a number of nights to choose from.
Some members have entered all three. A different partner every night also brings the social elements which, due to Covid has been sadly lacking of late. High entries ensured a great mix of abilities which always adds to a tournament.
NIGHT ONE - DECEMBER 1ST
Winners Mick and Clodagh and runners up Mike and Rosanne. A great night had by all, fast paced, quick turnaround tennis matches, perfect on a cold dry night. Tournament sponsor Paul was on hand to present his sponsorship cheque and watch some tennis. A long standing supporter of Ballyhooly Tennis
Club, Paul was involved when we had a shed as a clubhouse and tarmac courts so to have Paul offer to sponsor a tournament as part of our new initiative for tournament sponsors was very welcomed and appreciated.
NIGHT TWO - DECEMBER 6TH
Fabulous night of tennis at the Paul O’Driscoll auctioneers sponsored Christmas Cracker tournament. Second night of our 3 tournament events and tonight saw our beginners ladies take part in their first club tournament. Very close matches throughout with Jeanette and Lorraine winning 3 2 in the final against Trixie and Nicola.
First of many tournaments we hope. The next event of the night saw 5 teams play a round robin event. All 5 teams were at 9 points before the last round robin match which is an indication of the well matched teams and standard of play. Winners were Kay and Clodagh over Maeve and Calum. Lucky to get the tournament in before the storm! Next event will be on 14th December.
