Best wishes to President John O’Sullivan

-

The AGM of the Parent Club took place last Monday evening in the Theatre of Fermoy Community Centre in order to comply with all NPHET regulations in regard to the current ongoing situation with the new variant of Covid-19.

Outgoing president Niall Cremen made his farewell speech in which he thanked all who made the year so enjoyable. Firstly our two captains ex officio, Oonagh and Gerry, who were a joy to work with and their committees who kept golf on an even keel throughout a difficult year. The Committee of Management under our chairman Seamus, for their leadership, support and courtesy.

He thanked Sec/Mgr. Denis for all his help and for his vision which resulted in the beautifully enhanced clubhouse surroundings which he project managed. Niall also made special mention of Tomas and the course staff for the wonderful work that they done on the course over the past few years. Work which has resulted in an offering that has drawn nothing but praise from members and visitors alike. “A hidden gem, wonderful course, superb greens, what an experience” are only a tiny number of the positive comments Niall said he received from visitors during the year.

He asked the chairman of the

Course Committee to bring the thanks of the meeting to the staff on the wonderful work they are doing. Sincere thanks to Monica and Pavel and the clubhouse team for taking care of members and visitors, you are very much appreciated by us all.

Niall also sent his sincere gratitude to the members of the club, who made his year so special. He really enjoyed his role and has many happy memories that will remain with him for many years to come. He also thanked his family for their support and encouragement.

OUR INCOMING PRESIDENT

As always, the Parent Club AGM saw the final change in the officer line up for 2022 when outgoing president Niall presented his good friend John O’Sullivan with his blazer as he takes on the role of president for 2022. President John is a long standing member of Fermoy GC having joined when posted to the local branch of the Bank of Ireland from Templemore in the mid 1970s. He quickly became actively involved in club administration at a time when the Fermoy GC was going through a difficult period. He joined the group of totally committed volunteers who sought ideas to help keep the club afloat and is one of the “1982 Levy Paid” members that helped Fermoy GC through that crisis.

John took over the role of captain for 1985 when the captain was responsible for the entire running of the club. This was certainly a very time consuming job and shows his total commitment to any role he takes on. John recalls spending Friday afternoons in the clubhouse with the course staff planning the following weeks work schedule, completing all the routine administrative tasks required including that of payroll, no mean feat for a volunteer with a busy day job and a family.

John has remained an active playing member of the club down through the years and no doubt will enter his new role with great enthusiasm. He has a vast amount of club knowledge which will benefit him hugely as president. John has always had a keen interest in sport, has been very actively involved in the Fermoy GAA for many years and is well known to many people locally through this and his work in the bank both in Fermoy and Mitchelstown.

In his address President John thanked Niall for affording him the honour of taking on the role of for 2022 and said he looks forward to working with lady captain Siobhan, captain Gerry, chairman Seamus and their committees in the year ahead. He also sent his best wishes to the new juvenile captain Ben Carey a member of the Carey family from Kilworth, many of whom are longstanding members of Fermoy GC.

Everyone in the club sends their best wishes to John and his Vice President Eileen O’Sullivan as they take on their roles for 2022.

TWO WINS IN A ROW FOR MARGE AHERN

Unfortunately, November 28 was a rather disappointing day for the Sunday players who awoke to misty damp conditions and not surprisingly a few removed their names from the timesheet. The Monday ladies were more fortunate as the mist had cleared leaving a blue sky with no wind to speak of.

The winner of the fourteen hole competition with a great score of 32 points was Marge Ahern (28) who has continued her winning form having also secured top place the previous week. It’s not easy to produce two wins in succession so well done to Marge on doing so. Second Place went to Mary Kennedy (25) 30 points, with Angela Shealy (35) 28 points taking third on count back from Helen Mackessy (28) who also secured fourth position on a similar countback. Lady Captain Siobhan sends her congratulations to all the prize-winners.

WEEKLY COMPETITION

Our weekly competition will continue to be held on Sunday and Monday, check details of the holes in play when you enter on the computer. The current local rules are posted in the locker room and on Fermoy Ladies WhatsApp group.

CHRISTMAS PRIZES COMPETITION

The Christmas Prizes have been extremely well supported and the final date for entry is this coming Saturday, December 11. There is still time to improve your score by getting in a better card, that extra point or two could make all the difference on the leader board.
