Grade 6 (Blue) team march into the last 16 of the Munster Winter League
On Saturday last, our grade 6 team (blue) made the long journey to Kerry to play Tralee in the last 32 stage of the Munster Winter League. Our team of Barbara Piggott (captain), Lindsey Graham, Padraic Slattery and Lee Kielthy had qualified from a tough group to advance to the knock out stages of the competition. Tralee is a fine side with plenty of experience, so an away fixture in the Kingdom for Mitchelstown’s grade 6 team was going to be a serious challenge.
However, the excellent play by our players in the group stages gave them great momentum heading into the match. This proved to be the difference between the sides; some excellent tennis by Mitchelstown with the determination to win, saw them through to victory. This was our third time meeting a grade 6 side from Tralee this year, each time the matches were played in a very sporting manor, hopefully our paths might cross again in 2022 for another battle!
Next up for us is a last 16 tie against Rushbrooke, this coming Sunday, December 12 at 1.30pm in Mitchelstown. We wish Barbara, Lindsey, Padraic and Lee the very best of luck in their match and we encourage people to come along and support our team to further success.
COLOURS LEAGUE SEES WEEK 4 COMPLETED
Our Colours League completed week 4 of the competition last Thursday. The blue team continued their run of victories, winning four matches from four, defeating team purple 29-22. Team grey followed up their recent success with another win, this time beating team red 28-23. Team pink picked up some much needed points, overcoming team white 31-20. The orange team made huge ground in the league table when defeating team yellow 40-11.
