BREW BOYS BOUNCE BACK!

-

After last weekend’s defeat to Jay Bazz the Brew Boys travelled to Glanmire to face Telus International knowing that anything other than 3 points could put their title hopes into disarray.

The game started well for the Brew Boys who were unfortunate to have two goals ruled off for offside. However the deadlock was broken when once again, Tom “Magic” McGrath curled the ball from distance (much more than 12 yards!) into the top right hand corner of the net leaving the Telus keeper with no chance. There were chances at either end before the half with Jonny Black and Man of the Match Dan Turcan helping keeper Shane O’Brien keep us in the lead at the break.

The second half started a little nervously for the Brew Boys who were lucky not to concede early on. We pushed on again and with 30 minutes to go the game changed when the “Return of the Mac” finally happened. Sean McCarthy was introduced to replace the debuting starter Adam O’Keeffe who absolutely worked his socks off throughout the game. A wonderful (intentional?!) dummy header from Magic McGrath confused the Telus defence and keeper and Sean capitalised on it, rifling the ball into the roof of the net to make it 2-0. The nerves were now settled and there was one thing on our minds. More goals.

Gaffer Anthony Cody was introduced due to injury of one of our players and he had an immediate impact… by giving away a free kick and getting booked!

Some good link play led to a wonderful ball played through to Sean McCarthy who, despite being fouled in the box, stayed on his feet and put the scoreline out of reach. 3-0.

Renato Alves’ persistence paid off when he whipped the ball across to the feet of the one and only Gavan Quirke who was never going to miss. 4-0 the final score and the Brew Boys keep the chase alive.

This Sunday we are back home against VIP Barbers Carrigaline at 2pm. Hope to see ye all there!
