“Come Try It” 2021 comes to an end

-

What a huge success our recent “Come Try Camogie and LGFA” has been over the past 6 weeks at the fantastic Ballyduff Upper Astro/ ball wall facility.

The programme was run in conjunction with Ballyduff Upper LGFA as part of the “20x20 If She Can’t See It She Can’t Be It” campaign to recognise and promote female girls/women in sports. The initiative gave all girls in the Ballyduff area from ages 13 upwards a chance to try out both camogie and LGFA and it was great to see such great numbers every week with some girls trying out either camogie or LGFA for the first time.

Huge credit must be given to our local coaches Shane Feeney, Martina and Willie Hogan (camogie) and Sarah Kenneally, Clodagh Walsh and Steve Collins (LGFA) for organising the initiative. These coaches have put in great work over the past few years to keep the Ballyduff flag flying for both codes and we are extremely grateful to each and every one of them for giving up their time.

In addition, we were blown away by the support and effort made by the guest coaches who came from near and far to host the “Come Try It” sessions. Massive thanks to Patrick Curran, Darren Duggan, Hannah Landers, Nicola Morrissey, Katie Hannon, Áine Wall, Stephen Bennett, Rebecca Casey, Orlagh Farmer, Mikey Kearney, Shona Curran, Jackie Horgan, Mia Cronin, Emma Murray, Ciara O’Sullivan, Roisin Tobin, Lorraine Bray and Jenny McCarthy.

It was fantastic for our girls to get some coaching advice from some of the top household names in hurling/camogie and LGFA, throughout the initiative. We were also taken aback by the support of local busi

nesses who sponsored spot prizes each week and we are extremely grateful. Finally, huge thanks to all girls that took part and it will be great to see as many girls as possible taking to the field next year wearing the red of Ballyduff in Camogie and LGFA. Well done all and roll on 2022! Check out Ballyduff Upper Camogie or LGFA online for a video summary of the initiative.
