A MARVELLOUS MARKET IN KILDORRERY

- JOHN AHERN

Plans to restore and refurbish the Old Creamery Yard in Kildorrery are ongoing. Attention has now turned to the Creamery Store and all going well, this large indoor space will soon be capable of hosting a variety of events.

Already a community focal point, ‘the yard’ was the setting for a Christmas market last weekend. Kildorrery people traditionally support their own and once again, they turned out in force last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Markets have sprung up with great regularity since Covid came among us and the Kildorrery model, which was Covid compliant, more than held its own. Santa got a warm Kildorrery welcome from expectant children, while his elves remain as industrious as ever.

PLENTY OF SHOPPERS

Markets are about the exchange of goods for cash and we saw plenty of this last weekend. Some extra stalls were accommodated for the festive season, with plenty of money changing hands. A timely boost indeed for some local enterprises.

A MAJOR UNDERTAKING

Development comes with a price tag and in relation to the Creamery Store makeover, the outstanding figure here is €120,000. This won’t be raised overnight and presently, a lot of old style fundraisers are out of bounds.

Fortunately, there’s a lot of ‘buy in’ from the people of Kildorrery, who understand that the yard and more particularly, the store, will be of huge benefit to the community in the years ahead.

DONATIONS WELCOME

Individual or corporate donations to the Creamery Store restoration fund would be most welcome. Those favouring online methods of support should log on to idonate.ie/kildorrerystore, while those who want to do things the old way can drop in their contribution to the community office in Kildorrery.
