Refurbishment of derelict site in Kilfinane

- MARIAN ROCHE

A contractor is being sought by Limerick City and County Council to refurbish two derelict properties in Kilfinane, in a move sure to be welcomed as a sign of investment and improvement in the South Limerick town, where there are 12 active derelict site cases.

The properties for which a contractor is sought are located at 2A and 2B High Street, Kilfinane, ‘ a two storey terrace, in ruinous state’. They will be substantially refurbished for housing purposes, with the condition described as: “in a ruinous state. The interior and roof is to be gutted.”

The contractor is, however, requested to retain as many roof slates as possible in the process.

The council confirmed that the two properites were acquired under the Buy and Renew Scheme in July 2020.

The advertisement was put up on the eTenders site alongside 14 other lots throughout Limerick, including properties at Kilmallock, Abbeyfeale and Newcastlewest.

Of the 12 derelict sites in Kilfinane, six are entered into the council’s Derelict Sites Register. They are at West End, Market Place, The Square, Glebe Street and both Main Street and Lower Main Street. The property at Market Place has been vested in the council since January 2019.

ALMOST 50 PROPERTIES ACROSS DISTRICT

In the entire Cappamore-Kilmallock district, there are 48 properties on the council’s Derelict Sites Register, with five of those in Knocklong. One is in Cluain Dara, Anglesboro, and another in the square in Galbally.
