‘Beauty Queen’ hits the Tallow stage

-

Brideview Drama Tallow are delighted to be staging the wellknown play ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ by Martin McDonagh in Tallow this February and will be bringing it on the road for the 2022 Amateur Drama Festival circuit.

This dark and moving play will send chills up your spine, but will give you a giggle just as quick with its sinister humour. The story follows the lonesome lives of mother and daughter Mag Folan (played by Helen Aherne) and Maureen Folan (played by Emer Peet). Both women are trapped in a vicious cycle of isolation and violence, but a glimmer of hope appears for Maureen in the form of Pato Dooley (Kris Cowming), a local man now living in London who returns for a brief visit to his homeplace in Leenane. His younger brother Ray (Eoghan Hennessy) becomes a vital cog in the story which unfolds.

Directed by Jack Aherne and David Murphy, this production draws on the experience of a cast and crew who have spent many years on the festival circuit, including the All-Ireland Drama Festival in Athlone in 2018 and 2019.

‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ will be performed in Tallow Community Centre in February on Saturday 12th, Sun 13th; Sat 19th, Sun 20th; Sat 26th and Sun 27th at 8pm nightly. Tickets will be available at the door each night. This play is not suitable for young audiences due to adult content and violence.

Face masks must be worn by all audience members for the duration of the performance, as per current Government guidelines.
