Tesco planning application
Dear Editor,
A Tesco in Fermoy will mean there will be 5 major supermarkets in the town, 4 of which will be located in the southwest of the town. Tesco will not be near Pearse Square, the ‘town centre’.
Tesco will expect a return for their investment and their new market share will come from the existing retail outlets in the town. The biggest casualty will be small independent traders: Fermoy’s only fruit and vegetable shop, our florists, our newsagents, our butchers and our book shop. It is their market share and their profit margins and will be reduced which will question their viability.
Tesco in Fermoy will pull shoppers away from the southeast of the town and we can expect shop closures and boarded up shop fronts.
I oppose this planning application.
Yours, Ted Myers, Castlecooke, Kilworth.
