Autism Awareness

-

On January 14, Sarah and ‘Ernie’ the dog came and visited our school thanking us for our donations that we gave them over Hallowe’en. Sarah and Ernie came and gave us the chance to go outside and rub

the Labrador that was a cross with a golden retriever.

All the students asked many questions and learned a lot about the dog’s that they train and taught to be assistants to the autistic children and help them to be safer and happier. The dog’s ears are a great thing to calm the children when they feel angry or sad. It costs €22,000 to just train one dog. All of that money is raised by people and schools like ours.

The families that need the dogs get them for free. There are 36 dogs active all around Ireland from this autism cause. You might see these dogs around the place sometimes they wear red jackets, if you do see these dogs make sure not to distract them because they are making sure that the autistic child is safe and doesn’t run onto the road.

In the end everyone had great fun and we all loved having Ernie and Sarah here. We are all very happy that we raised the money for such a great cause.
