Great win for U16 boys
UNDER 16 BOYS Mitchelstown 26 Castleisland 12
We hosted visitors Castleisland recently on a perfect dry day for rugby at a well-attended Currabowen. Our first try came from a well worked forwards move finished off by a powerful surge by our 2nd row Ben Cooke carrying no less than 3 opposition players over the line with him. This really gave the boys confidence and moments later after a great pick and go by our no 8 Andrew McEnaney from the base of the scrum Conor Dooling was on hand to take the offload and beat a number of tackles to touch down. After a number of great backs moves, all of which yielded ground, our fullback Cian Coughlan ran in a fantastic solo effort from distance to touch down under the posts.
The second half saw us defend doggedly as Castleisland were determined to get themselves back into the game and scored a try to take them to within one try of us. We pushed forward when the opportunity arose and played a lot of ball in their half being unlucky on a couple of occasions not to score. The clinching score came in the final quarter when again Cian Coughlan ran in from distance, Diarmuid O’Brien added his third conversion to put the score beyond doubt to finish 26-12.
It would not do the team effort justice if the focus was solely on the try scorers, every single player from 1-19 stood up and accounted for himself, this was a team victory.
Next game: Saturday, 29th Jan. v Crosshaven in Currabowen at 2pm.
