The Avondhu

Whoosh - and away we go!

-

With Covid restrictions lifting it is hoped that 2022 will be a year in the GAA when things finally get back to normal, whatever the new normal will be. The program of events in Avondhu will kick off with the U21 football championship which is scheduled to begin on the weekend of 13th February.

A general meeting of the Avondhu general board will outline the suggested program for 2022 this coming Wednesday night. It is not easy to arrange games, programs and schedules that will suit everybody when there are so many unknowns variables, pitch availabilities, prevailing weather, conflicts with Cork GAA plans, but with good will hopefully our participants in the games and our loyal supporters.

And then there are the supporters and a lot of people who are just anxious to attend games again, encourage, critique and talk about the games. It has been a very awkward period, the last two years, but we thank people sincerely for their patience and fortitude. Now, let the games begin.

AGM IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE ON FRIDAY NIGHT

The AGM of Killavullen GAA Club will be held now, taking cognisance of the wishes of our members, at 9pm on Friday, January 28 in the Community Centre.

Nominations are invited and members may also suggest motions / topics for discussion at the meeting. Nominations / suggested motions should have been received by club secretary (Joe Howard) by Sunday, January 16. Please note that voting or speaking on motions at the AGM is restricted to paid-up members only.

NO WINNER OF NEW JACKPOT

There was no winner of the new lotto jackpot of €1,000 last Tuesday night, when the draw took place in the community centre. It is planned that the draw will be in the community centre for some time now going forward as the tables and chairs have been removed from the upstairs gym area of the dressing room complex. That whole area has been given over to the strength and conditioning gym.

The numbers drawn were 5, 20 and 24. The jackpot on the night was €1,000. Next week, the jackpot will be €1,100. The winners of the lucky dips were as follows; €50 Yvonne O’Keeffe, Ballybeg and Cottage Childcare, online sales; €30 Mick Carroll, online sales; €20 Brendan Twohig, seller John Angland. Purchase your ticket from any committee member or from our website - Killavullengaa.com.

GOOD TWIST FROM THE SCRAP SATURDAY

Killavullen GAA would be hopeful of a good return from the Scrap Saturday that they organised for last Saturday which was very well supported. While possibly lacking the engine blocks of a bulldozer or other extremely heavy items, we did manage to accumulate a good collection of scrap which was removed on Monday afternoon.

We also had a good cohort of players / volunteers that went around in a jeep and trailer, or tractor and trailer collecting material. That is also encouraging to see new people getting more and more invested in their club.

STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING GYM UPDATE

The new gym is up and running now since last Saturday and the entry fobs to paid up gym members have been distributed. Hopefully persons will utilise the gym on a frequent basis and it becomes an invaluable asset to the populace of Killavullen and beyond. If you wish to join, contact Liam Dorgan on 087-6533294 or any committee member.
