Bingo is back
This coming Saturday night the Bingo is back. Last year during the enforced Lockdown due to the Covid pandemic Bride Rovers broke new ground by holding online bingo for the first time ever. It was a great success and provide some mighty entertainment as well as being a successful fundraiser.
So on this coming Saturday night, January 29th it’s a case of ‘Eyes Down’ again as we commence to 2022 bingo season. You can join online from 8pm and the first game commences at half 8. The cost is a very reasonable €8 for three games and your support will be appreciated. Please tell your friends and relations at home and abroad about this fundraiser for Bride Rovers. Cards can be bought at www.briderovers.ie so do join in for a bit of fun and craic and a chance to win some valuable prizes so get your card and ‘eyes down’ once more.
CLUB MEETING
The first club executive meeting for 2022 was held on Monday night last. It was an historic occasion as it was our first get together in our recently revamped club room and it was great to see such a fine attendance. Club Cathaoirleach Gerard Lane welcomed everyone including the new members of the executive. There was a lengthy agenda including management teams, county and east Cork board reports, financial report, children’s officers report, juvenile club update, presentations for 2021 winning teams, pitch development, 2022 sub committees and any other business. It was a meeting with plenty discussion on the year ahead. Different championship formats from the county board and east Cork board were outlined and our delegates were instructed on which proposals to support.
The children’s officer dealt with the issues of safeguarding, garda vetting and foundation coaching courses and stressed how vital it is that every single mentor involved with any team must comply fully with all the safeguarding regulations. Finance is always a big topic and the chairman stressed the importance of extra members in the Club 100, Rebels Bounty and the weekly Club Lotto. An officers meeting was fixed for tonight, Thursday night at 8pm. For the purposes of a record in our minutes Liam Barry formally proposed and Pat O’Connor seconded that the Bride Rovers Club go ahead with the land acquisition deal which was negotiated last year. Club Runai Michael Carey outlined a new protocol for the allocation of All-Ireland final tickets in the future. Votes of sympathy were passed and all stood for a silent prayer. The next meeting was fixed for Monday, February 14th at 8pm.

At the club executive meeting on Monday night chairman Gerard Lane announced the composition of the various club sub committees for the coming year. Grounds committee, match day committee, finance committee, lotto committee, coaching and games committee and club fixtures committee. UNDER 9 RETURN TO TRAINING
Our U9 boys are back training on Saturday, 26th Feb at 10am on the main pitch. The coaches and players are all looking forward to what will be a big year for the players and loads of “air” hurling!
WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO
The weekly Club Lotto was held on Tuesday, January 18th and the four numbers drawn were 1,2,19 and 30, there was no winner of the €17,000 jackpot. The prizes of €30 each went to Alan Murphy Garrynacole, Noreen Hogan Kildinan, Nigel Murphy Castlemagner, Terry Broderick Monanig and Regina Walsh Castlelyons. Lotto tickets are just €2 each and every €2 is vital for our Club. You can join online at or purchase from any of the retail outlets locally. With so many friends and supporters of Bride Rovers scattered all over the world please spread the news about the weekly lotto. A yearly ticket for the lotto costs just €90 and can be purchased from Club members or any of our lotto sub committee.
REBELS BOUNTY TIME
It was formerly called the Cork GAA Club Members Draw and was relaunched and rebranded as Rebels Bounty last year. With a huge range of valuable monthly prizes this Draw is a great investment for just €100 per annum which is basically €10 per month plus two free draws. The Bride Rovers Club is actively supporting the Rebels Bounty initiative so please support the GAA in your parish and in Cork by joining up. Tickets are now on sale from Club members. If you’re not in you can’t win.
WELL DONE BALLYGIBLIN
The odyssey goes on for the Ballygiblin Junior hurlers. In front of a massive crowd of red-clad supporters in O Moore Park Portlaoise the challenge of English champions Fullen Gaels was brushed aside as Ballygiblin qualified for the All-Ireland final. They gave a master class in hurling and lining out without Darragh O’Flynn the Cork champions were in cruise control from the off. There should be some atmosphere in Croke Park on Saturday week, February 5th when the junior and intermediate Hurling Club Finals take place at GAA Headquarters. Ballygiblin will face famed Mooncoin of Kilkenny at 3 o’clock in the junior final. Then at 5 it’s Kerry v Kildare as Kilmoyley will meet Naas in the intermediate final. Both games will be shown on TG4. It should be a super day and I know many Bride Rovers members are planning the trip to Dublin to support Ballygiblin. The Cork winners, trained by Aghada’s Ronan Dwane, will enter the decider in confident mood after brilliant Avondhu, Cork and Munster campaigns. Mooncoin had a very easy win in their semi-final against Salthill/Knocknacarra and a Cork v Kilkenny final should be a cracker.
1968 DINNER DANCE
Drama in Bartlemy. On Friday, February 11th and again on the following Friday, February 18th Bartlemy Parish Hall will host dramatic productions as part of the Blackwater Valley Fit Ups. Full details next week. The Fit ups were held in 2020 and were hugely successful but Covid caused their cancellation last year.
CAR BOOT SALE SUNDAY
Next Sunday is car boot sale day in Rathcormac. Any club members who can give an hour or two are asked to please contact Billy Finnegan. Items for the Parish stall will be accepted in the Community Field on Saturday morning. One person’s rubbish is another’s treasure so please bring along unwanted gifts, bric a brac etc.

CLUB 100
The Club 100 Scheme brings in much needed finance for ongoing club development work. We are at present seeking additional members for the scheme. Basically those who join the Club 100 commit to making a monthly donation to the Bride Rovers Club on an ongoing basis. There are three distinct Packages Gold, Silver and Bronze and the monthly contributions are €40, €30 and €20. For this financial contribution Club 100 members can avail of club membership, family club membership, yearly club lotto ticket (tickets) and Rebels Bounty Draw tickets - the level of benefits varies with the type of Club 100 membership.
