‘Sale agreed’ on Presentation Convent Chapel
A sale has been agreed on the Presentation Convent Chapel building in Fermoy.
The building, located in the heart of Fermoy town, directly overlooking Pearse Square, has been the centre of much attention recently after locals voiced their concerns regarding the condition of the building.
This week, a diocesan spokesperson confirmed to The Avondhu that there is a ‘sale agreed’ on the prominent Fermoy building.
It is understood that the sale agreed is to a private buyer within the Fermoy surrounds.
When asked about the future of the building, the spokesperson said: “As far as I know remedial works to seal the building continue. I am not aware of any further works done to the building.”
According to a spokesperson for the Diocese of Cloyne, the roof of the building was damaged in a storm roughly twenty years ago.
Last year, Diocesan representatives were reportedly in conversation with Cork County Council regarding the future of the building, and shortly after, a diocesan spokesperson stated that ‘ essential works’ and ‘immediate remedial measures’ would be carried out.
Works on site began around September 2021 and saw scaffolding erected on the exterior of the building.
“We are trying to secure the future of the site and basically we are trying to seal the building before winter. Sealing the building is our priority at the minute. We had hoped to do this sooner, but because of Covid-19 and all building being stopped, we couldn’t,” a spokesperson said at the time.
Currently, scaffolding remains in place on the buildings exterior and construction materials can be seen around the entrances to the building.
Signage for ‘Better Built Homes’, a Corkbased building contractor who specialise in new builds, alterations, extensions, and renovation of domestic dwellings and commercial buildings throughout Cork, are visible on fencing surrounding the grounds of the Convent Chapel.
