New footpaths for local villages

- KATIE GLAVIN

The completion of new footpaths in local villages was welcomed this week, as local councillor Noel McCarthy commended outdoor council staff on their work.

In Curraglass, a new footpath was constructed in the heart of the village connecting locals in the village with the school and shop.

According to the councillor, plans for the development are something which have been on Cork County Council’s agenda for some time now.

“Since I got elected in 2009, I have had representations from people living in the area looking for a footpath so that they could walk through the village safely and to the local school,” Cllr McCarthy said.

Having tabled motions on the matter ever since, Cllr McCarthy said that he is ‘delighted’ the works, funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA), are now complete.

“I want to compliment Brendan O’Gorman and the outdoor on the job done and it’s great to see that there is a section of footpath in Curraglass. I will follow on with that in future meetings to see if I can get it completed out to the speed limit sign towards the Tallow direction.

“I think this will finish the village and allow people to walk safely through the village to the shop, the garage, to the local school and rather than walking on a grass margin, people will walk safely on a footpath,” Cllr McCarthy said.

CONNA

On the Fermoy road into Conna, another new footpath was recently completed by Cork County Council with funding from the National Transport Authority.

Works at this location were also welcomed by Cllr McCarthy who said that the new footpath is a ‘great addition for the village’.

“The council saw that it needed to be done, and when the funding was made available, they did it.

“I wholeheartedly welcome it and it’s a great addition to the people living in the area to be able to walk safely to the village and for young kids walking towards the school,” Cllr McCarthy said.
