High Achievers Programme for Coláiste Fionnchua

-

Here at Coláiste Fionnchua in Mitchelstown we strive to ensure that all students reach their full potential, both academically and personally. Those with particularly high academic ability or specific creative talent are invited to join the newly designed High Achievers Programme.

The Programme offers students the opportunity to participate in a series of cross-curricular and co-curricular events, keeping them engaged in stimulating activities and challenges, while also allowing them to work both independently and collaboratively on academic and enrichment-based projects. The Programme will allow students to enhance their problem-solving abilities, extend their creative and analytical skills, develop deep understanding and critical thinking skills.

The programme aims to enhance students’ interests and inspire creativity. By letting students lead the way, they are ensuring that they are always involved and interested in the tasks they choose to complete. We are there as a guiding point and to ensure they are utilising their talents to the best of their ability but also making sure they are enjoying themselves in the process.

They are currently working on two projects, one of which is the John Hooper Statistical Poster Competition run by the CSO. This provides an outstanding opportunity for students across the island of Ireland to showcase their data analytical and interpretation skills.

The second project students have decided to engage in is ‘The Story of Your Stuff’. This is an initiative of the Environmental Protection Agency which challenges second level students to investigate the life cycle of their everyday ‘stuff’ – objects and activities. The EPA’s vision is for a clean, healthy and well protected environment supporting a sustainable society and economy.

The IMTA (Irish Maths Teachers Association) are running a Junior Maths competition which we are also currently preparing for.

This programme creates a real buzz in the classroom every week as it’s a real mix of learning and fun.
