Ballygiblin abú

Dear Editor,

This time last year, we were in the very depths of the pandemic - what a difference for the dawning of Spring 2022!

As we emerge from almost all viral restrictions, seeing the parish festooned with the red and white of Ballygiblin lifts our hearts.

Having a local team competing for an All-Ireland title on the hallowed grounds of Croke Park, is surely the stuff of dreams. It’s a joy that can resonate with young and old, throughout the whole catchment area of The Avondhu readership.

Next Saturday will be a truly historic occasion - the culmination of labours by generations and fodder to inspire for decades to come. The young people of our parish now have their own mighty local heroes.

Regardless of the ultimate outcome, players, management and supporters have regenerated energy and local community spirit, that nothing else could possibly emulate. It’s absolutely fantastic!

What an opportunity they have afforded us to experience. It came just when we needed it most.
