O’Connor welcomes commencement of North Cork broadband surveying

-

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork East James O’Connor has welcomed the news that National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company rolling out the new high speed fibre broadband network, this week announced that the surveying works across North Cork are well underway.

“This is great news that the process to get high-speed connectivity to homes and businesses across Fermoy and Kanturk is on its way. There are many houses and businesses in the area badly in need of high-speed broadband, especially when remote working is becoming part of so many people’s lives,” Deputy O’Connor said.

“One of my priorities since becoming a TD is that high-speed broadband is delivered to the constituency of Cork East. I am glad to say this is starting to become a reality.”

NBI crews have made substantial progress in Cork, including in Fermoy and the surrounding area. These initial works pave the way for the next stage of deploying fibre on poles/ducts and includes the erection of poles, unblocking of ducts, and the insertion of sub duct into existing ducts, for the fibre to be installed.

Deputy O’Connor added: “As part of the Transport and Communications committee, I met with Peter Hendrick, CEO of National Broadband Ireland and his staff last week in Dáil Éireann to share my concerns regarding the speed of the works across the constituency of in the North Cork region and again with local people working with NBI on the ground in the past few weeks. I am delighted that this is being dealt with now and in the coming months, Fermoy and the surrounding area is going to be plugged into top quality high-speed fibre broadband.”

NBI’s website, www. nbi.ie has a search tool to enable the public to check whether their premises is within the rollout area, and to show indicative dates for areas being surveyed.
