Two wins in a row for U16 team

-

U16 BOYS Mitchelstown 15 Crosshaven 5

Last Saturday we hosted in Currabowen visitors from Crosshaven in perfect dry conditions for the 2nd week in a row.

The game got off to a lightening start when we chased the kick-off, turned over possession and a number of phases later our centre Sean O’Grady crossed the line for a 1st minute try. We went on to dominate the exchanges and scored our 2nd try after a great break from Cian Coughlan who finished off a great back move to move us 10-0 ahead.

Crosshaven then settled and put us under considerable pressure, but our defence remained intact including a try saving effort when their big No 8 who had gone over the line, was held up and driven back by a determined effort from our entire back row.

The game was a very even contest for a long period until a well co-ordinated forwards move with some impressive heavy carries saw our captain and No 8 Andrew McEnaney power over the line from 10 metres.

Every player in our twenty man squad played their part in securing us a 2nd win in a row.

Our next game is away on Friday night to a Limerick city amalgamation consisting of St. Mary’s/ Richmond/UL Bohemians. Kick off in UL Boh’s ground in Annacotty at 19.30.

MITCHELSTOWN/MALLOW GIRLS

Our girls combo team travelled to Dolphin and while they lost a high scoring fixture by 52-46, Aisling and Aimee were among the scorers, and everybody contributed greatly to some fine running rugby.

The next fixture is a cup game away to Bruff/Garryowe, and the girls are well up for that on March 6th.

We hope to have a few more friendly games to warm up the competitive edge.
