We’re all behind Ballygiblin on Saturday

-

What a feast of local sporting interest we have to look forward to this weekend in Mitchelstown. Croke Park beckons for a large number of our members on Saturday as Ballygiblin take on Mooncoin in the Junior All-Ireland club hurling final. When Covid put a stop to GAA action in 2020 we were delighted to welcome a number of members from the local GAA clubs. For that reason Mitchelstown Golf Club is fully behind the Bally boys again this weekend.

The red and white colours of Ballygiblin are being proudly flown from the flagpole in the clubhouse since early this week as a sign of solidarity. Mitchelstown Golf Club has hosted the Ballygiblin Golf Classic on a number of occasions over the years. The club is always delighted to host fundraising classics for the local GAA clubs. Golf will definitely take a back row seat for many of our members on Saturday as excitement builds ahead of the big match. Victory over Mooncoin at Croke Park will mean that golf on Sunday will probably also be out of the question for many members. We wish the team and club officers the very best and sincerely hope that the you return with the cup. The town and locality could certainly do with a lift after a few tough years. We wish all those travelling to Croke Park safe driving and don’t forget the last person out has to turn off the lights!!!

MEN’S CLUB NEWS

Last weekend’s open singles was played in variable weather conditions. Terry English (24.5) was the winner with 37 points. Well done Terry. Michael English (13.7) finished in second place with 36 points. The category prizes went to Jamie Finn (36pts), Paudie Donegan (35pts) and John McCleary (34pts). The excellent scoring by all the prize winners last week is reflective of the excellent condition of the course but in spite of the weather the competition attracted a fine entry.

This weekend we will be running a 15 hole open singles event and tee times can be booked by phoning 025-24072 or by booking on line via the BRS system. Members and visitors are reminded that updated course information can be found by phoning 025-24231. Members are reminded that the Corbett Court Spring League will commence in 2 weeks’ time and those wishing to participate should put their name on the entry sheet in the hallway before the draw is made.
