National gold for Larry

The national indoor track and field returned with a bang last Sunday in the AIT centre in Athlone.

On the day we had Larry O’Grady compete in two field events in the clubs colours. His first event on the field was the shot putt competing just after 2 o’clock. By 2.30pm Larry had the bronze in his pocket. His second event was the weight for distance at 4 o’clock. Again in less than 30 minutes the great news had come through that Larry had claimed the gold medal and a PB.

NEWCASTLE 5K

A fundraisin­g 5k run in aid of Newcastle national school took place last Sunday morning in Newcastle, Co Tipperary. Heading to the start line in the club vest for this 5k were Gerard Hanley and Mary Magner Purcell. Ger crossed the line in 18.51 finishing 14th overall and 3rd in category.

RECCI RUN

We had a big crew out on the recci of the new IMRA Munster Lisvernane 12k race course bright and early last Sunday morning Robert Cunningham, Patricia Ryan, Ger Griffin, Willie O’Donoghue, Marie O’Shea, Padraig Wallace, Mary Pyke, Damien Holian, Aoife Courtney, Michelle Carey, Mike Carey, Mary Hinchy and John Hayes, joined by IMRA Munster members Paul O’Brien and Matthew Branch.

CLUB EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2022

The Michael Curley Cunningham 4 mile (May). The Mooreabbey 10 mile (July). The mile dash (December). Dates will be confirmed once permits are secured.

WORLD MASTERS MOUNTAIN RACE

A year later than expected due to Covid-19 the 21st World Masters Mountain Running Championsh­ip will take place in Clonmel, Ireland from the 2nd to the 4th of September, 2022.

It is a privilege for IMRA/Munster to host such a prestigiou­s event and IMRA/Munster have endeavoure­d to provide a challengin­g and exciting course. The race will start in Clonmel and venture into the Comeragh Mountains in county Waterford.

The event will be held over 3 days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hillview Sports Club will be the headquarte­rs for the event and ceremonies.

ADULT TRAINING

Adult training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the community field Galbally from 7pm to 8pm. For contact tracing pre booking is essential through our online booking system for current members. Newbies are always welcome, so should you have an interest in joining us at our training sessions please message us via our social media page Mooreabbey Milers AC and we will point your running shoes in the right direction.

JUVENILE TRAINING

Juvenile training takes place each Monday night in the community field in Galbally from 7 to 8 pm. If you have a child interested in joining us please contact us through our social media pages.
