Mellerick’s Pharmacy and Mike’s Tyres sponsor leagues
February is gearing up to be a very busy month in Fermoy GC for both the ladies and gents clubs with the commencement of the Spring Leagues. Members who missed out last year due to the lockdown have signed up in large numbers for the 2022 leagues which certainly augurs well for a very exciting competition amongst the varying teams.
The captains Siobhan and Gerry, on behalf of all the participants, send their thanks to Mellerick’s Pharmacy sponsors of the ladies and to Mike’s Tyres, sponsors of the men for their very generous sponsorship which all the members very much appreciate. The men’s league begins this coming Saturday, February 5 with the ladies beginning on Sunday, February 13. Playing as part of a team give a super sense of camaraderie to any club and the added incentive to get out and improve your score is very good for your game. Best of luck to all ladies and gents taking part and above all enjoy your golf.

AILEEN RYAN WINS LAST WEEK’S 15 HOLE VOUCHER COMPETITION
The competition played on Sunday/Monday 23rd/24th January had a very good turnout of players and the weather on both days was quite pleasant although a little on the chilly side but that is to be expected in January. Playing on Monday former lady captain Aileen Ryan (23) returned an excellent 33 points pipping ladies club secretary Elaine Murphy (15) 32 points. In third place was our Get Into Golf co-ordinator Annette Twomey (23) 31 points and in fourth position Carol Griffin (15) 30 points. Carol continued her winning form as she was the winner of the previous weeks competition. Well done to all the prize-winners.
THURSDAY LADIES
On the last Thursday, January 27 sixteen ladies arrived for the weekly scramble, it was a beautiful day for golf with wintery sunshine and mild temperatures. The numbers were down slightly on other weeks as several of the regulars were attending the Minor Golf Alliance of which our very own Eileen O’Neill is Lady Captain for 2021/2022. In first place were Breda O’Connor, Josephine Kappis and Nuala Rice 31.4 nett point four ahead of Chrissy O’Farrell, Margaret O’Mahony and Mary Deane. Third position went to the two ball of Niamh Buckeridge and Mary Lysaght.
MEN’S CLUB REPORT

There was another strong turnout for the men’s seniors outing last Thursday with forty four members turning out. The day started out a little misty but this quickly cleared and we enjoyed a lovely few hours playing our ten holes of golf. Scoring was excellent with the team of Michael Caplis, John Mulvihill, Paddy Roche and Dan Galvin taking top spot with a gross five under par 34 which converted into a nett 25.6. Second place went to Michael Fitzgerald, Moss Murphy, Noel Crowley (Cork) and Jim Bartley on 26.5 from a gross four under. Michael J Murphy, Niall Cremen, Dave Hoare and Billy Timlin completed the podium when their four under converted to 26.8. Prior to the presentation of prizes our captain Ray made a presentation to the club barman, Mattias, who is returning to his homeland of Poland to serve his country as a member of their Defence Forces. In wishing Matt all the best in his new career, Ray thanked him for the excellent and cheerful service he provided to our group since he joined the staff of the club.
