Air ambulance tasked to ‘tragedy’ on Clancy Street

Gardaí and emergency services were called to a house in Clancy Street, Fermoy on Saturday morning last, where tragically, a local man passed away unexpected­ly.

The Irish Community Air Ambulance was also tasked by the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to the scene of the ‘medical emergency’, landing safely in the vacant green area beside the Fermoy Town Playground.

“Two Advanced Paramedics provided advanced life support to a patient along with NAS paramedics and Cork County Fire Service,” a spokespers­on for the Irish Community Air Ambulance said.

‘AWFUL TRAGEDY’

Sadly, the local man, Oliver Corcoran, aged in his 40s passed away suddenly of a suspected heart attack.

Speaking with The Avondhu, local Councillor Noel McCarthy stated that the incident is an ‘awful tragedy’.

“It’s very sad. The whole of Cork Road, Clancy Street and all that area are very upset over what happened. My heart goes out to him, his family and friends. It’s a very close-knit community and it is an awful tragedy,” Cllr McCarthy said.

Mr Corcoran’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem, a Garda spokespers­on confirmed. Foul play is not suspected.

“Gardaí and emergency services were called to a house in the Clancy Street area of Fermoy, Co Cork following the discovery of a body the morning of 5th February 2022. The deceased, a man aged in his late 40s was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place,” the spokespers­on confirmed.
