‘NOT POSSIBLE’ TO PUT A FIGURE ON LEAKAGE FROM WATER TOWER
Recently The Avondhu reported on the sight of a small yellow plastic bucket collecting (albeit overflowing) the water leaking out of the side of the Kildorrery Water Tower.
Last week, Irish Water have confirmed that they do not know how much water is being lost from the leak from the hill-top tower.
The services company are, along with Cork County Council, currently reviewing the ‘condition’ of the tower and assessing the upgrade options. Additionally, a ground level reservoir is to be provided to the village. A plan is not yet in place or drafted.
A water outage was confirmed in the village last Saturday, affecting a number of households.
As part of the National Leakage Programme, Irish Water aim to reduce the leakage rate nationally to 38% by the end of 2021, down from 46% in 2018. This is predominantly being done by the replacement of old underground waterpipes.
CASTLETOWN’ NEXT UP
Castletownroche is next on the list to have its pipes replaced by Irish Water. Last year, Glanworth saw almost 1 kilometre of pipes replaced, alongside the announcement of similar replacement works in both Doneraile and Killavullen.
