Battery pack stolen from Glenville speed detector

- KATIE GLAVIN

The battery pack was stolen from an electronic speed detector sign in Glenville recently. Located at the top of the village, the speed detector was out of action on Saturday, as locals in the area were alerted of the theft.

Battery packs from such signs are commonly targetted for theft, with several such incidents having taken place in TheAvondhu region, such as in Conna last year where the device located near the school was targeted by thieves.

Cork County Council confirmed to TheAvondhu that they will be replacing the battery pack for the speed detector in Glenville village. Measures are also now being taken by the council to prevent the theft of battery packs in the future.

“Typically, the battery pack housing is secured with a padlock and additional metal bands are installed as an added security feature,” the spokesperson said.

Members of the public are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
