Kildorrery standing tall!

- MARIAN ROCHE

The main street in Kildorrery is looking more upright recently, as the pole that lay askew by the pedestrian crossing was repaired by Cork County Council at the start of the month.

While the electrical installation is not yet complete, the pole is repaired, with the delay in works attributed to supply chain issues, as well as importation of the pole, which was a non-standard one. The council confirmed that all costs associated with the repair will be absorbed by the company involved in the original collision, whereby it is believed a truck reversed into the pole.

Meanwhile, a report is being prepared on behalf of Cork County Council for plans for traffic calming measures in the village, after calls were raised last year by local councillors and politicians addressing the matter. The pedestrian crossing markings have faded, and concerns have been raised that non-local traffic may not be aware of the crossing in the middle of the village. The road is busy, being on the main Killarney-Dublin (Mitchelstown-Mallow) route, and frequently used by large vehicles.

Cork County Council have been contacted for an update on the designs for traffic calming measures in the village.
