Philip Williams, Conna, remembered by family and friends
The death of Philip Williams, Conna, was marked in a very special way last Tuesday, as a funeral cortege of 20 ice-cream trucks, driven by friends and family, formed a procession to the crematorium in Ringaskiddy.
Mr Williams, a popular ice-cream man with Mr Softee, sadly passed away on Saturday after a battle with cancer.
His friends and family remembered the young man, and paid tribute to the medical professionals at CUH, as well as the palliative care team at Marymount University Hospital and Hospice, along with the team at McGrath’s Pharmacy in Tallow.
At Tuesday’s funeral Mass, Philip’s time with Riverstown Boxing Club was remembered, and his ‘die-hard love’ for Man United commemorated. His mother spoke of his ‘mischievous eye’ and his habit of laughing when nervous, in a eulogy that praised his dedication to boxing, and his achieving of a jersey licence, not long before his initial diagnosis of leukemia.
She spoke of his love for the kids running around the house, and how Philip’s motto in life was, ‘Make the best of your life; you’re here for a good time not a long time.’ She said that she wanted to celebrate his life, and that he was happy to the end. His good nature and humour was remembered by his mother, who thanked everyone present.
Philip is remembered by his parents Paddy and Mary, his daughter Sally, brothers and sisters, Sally’s mother Rebecca, extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.
