Local rowers invited to trial for Irish squad
Two Fermoy rowers, Aine O’Mahony and Alison Bergin, have been named among those invited to trial for the Irish team.
High-performance trials, taking place from February 11th to 13th, will see both local athletes trialled under separate U23 Women’s categories.
According to Rowing Ireland, invitations to trials are based on a number of factors such as water trials and physiological results from various erg tests.
For both rowers, their ability in the sport was underlined when the Fermoy Rowing Club members took the Women’s J19 double sculls title at the 2021 Irish Rowing Championships.
Running from a Friday to a Sunday, the first time trial will see a 6K trial taking place on Saturday in small boats, while Sunday will see athletes trialled in the morning and evening on 2K trials in crew boats.
