Memories of a lifetime for CBS pupils!

-

Saturday is a day we’ll remember forever as over 40 boys travelled to Croke Park to support and cheer on the mighty Ballygiblin hurlers.

With excitement and anticipation building, we left Mitchelstown Leisure Centre early in the morning ‘CBS Boys on Tour to Croke Park’! We got a mighty send off from our parents as we gave a rendition of “We are going to Croke Park”. We were all decked out in red and white and with our flags and banners we were ready for Croke Park.

A quick pitstop at Junction 14 brought more excitement as we joined the rest of the Ballygiblin fans. One moment we’ll always remember is the singing on the bus as we approached the stadium. The chants of Ole, Ole and the waving of the flags was brilliant.

We walked the final hundred yards to Croke Park, we had great fun and enjoyment with the Bally’ fans and also the Mooncoin fans. We had a fabulous moment outside Croke Park when we sang and cheered for Ballygiblin. We got a great response from all the people who were going to the match. The guards and stewards were very good to us. Mary O’Callaghan also joined the singsong.

The stadium was amazing and we were in awe to see our local heroes on the hallowed turf of Croke Park. Dreams do come true! The stadium was full of colour – the red and white of Ballygiblin and the green and white of Mooncoin.

The game was a welter of excitement from the start to finish. Darragh’s first score to Dean’s goal to Christy’s save brought tension and excitement to the stands.

The result may not have been what we wanted but we were so proud of the players. They are our heroes who sat in the same classrooms as us. They walked over to the stand at the end to acknowledge the supporters. Well done to Mooncoin and thanks Ballygiblin for the wonderful journey.

A final stop in Supermac’s, Portlaoise left us all happy and delighted as we made the journey home to Mitchelstown. A day we’ll always remember and we are so grateful that the school brought us on this magnificent trip.

THANKS YOU ALL!

We are thankful to the people who helped the school to make this possible. We want to acknowledge them for their kind contributions and support given to us. We must mention Mervin Hodgins of Hodgins Sausages, Claire Devaney, Bright Sparks, AIB Bank, SuperValu and Tesco who provided lovely treats for the boys. Thomas Power of The Print House made lovely banners and Mitchelstown / Ballygiblin Juvenile GAA for the jerseys and flags.

Finally, and most importantly we really want to thank the five people who made this day possible. Mr O’Regan, Mr Cahill, Ms O’Regan, Ms Hennessy and Ms Sheehan, we are so appreciative and thankful to you all for giving us a magical day that we’ll never ever forget. Thank you all!

As Danny said he had no favourite part because the day just kept getting better and better. It was just a fabulous occasion from start to finish. Ballygiblin abú!
