Fermoy Tidy Towns seeking support and volunteers

- KATIE GLAVIN

Fermoy Tidy Towns group are holding their first fundraiser event in over two years with a coffee morning at the Wagon Tavern.

Taking place from 10am until 1pm on Saturday, February 26, the group of local volunteers are seeking public support and assistance in their fundraising efforts.

“Public support would be very much appreciated as the group are badly in need of funding. People can support this coffee morning by attending and by donating cakes, scones and other items,” the spokesperson said.

A draw for prizes will also be held on the morning.

Sponsorship is also being actively sought by the local group, who are asking businesses and individuals for their support in helping the group in any way that they can and an appeal for volunteers is also being made by the Fermoy Tidy Towns group.

“The group are in urgent need of some new volunteers. There are only about ten members in the group at the moment which is way too small for all the work that has to be done to keep Fermoy clean and tidy.

“There are some individuals in some parts of the town who like to keep their own areas clean and this is very much appreciated. However, the group need a lot more help and this can be done by just doing a bit of weeding and picking up rubbish in your own area and not just leaving it for someone else to do. Every little bit helps,” a spokesperson for the group said.

Fermoy Tidy Towns group meet once or twice weekly and pickers, bags and gloves can be supplied by the group if needed, to anyone seeking to pitch in and volunteer.

“The more bodies we have, the easier it will be for everyone so please do your bit to help out,” the spokesperson added.
