Over a year’s wait for Lyrenacarriga Wind Farm decision
The due date has been pushed back yet again for the granting of planning permission for the Lyrenacarriga Wind Farm.
A date of January 28, 2022 had been earmarked for a decision from An Bord Pleanala on the proposed development, however, this has now been extended until April 29, 2022.
It is over a year since Curns Energy, the applicant, lodged the planning application with the independent planning body and decision dates on the proposed wind farm for West Waterford have been repeatedly delayed.
Local councillors have queried delays at past council meetings, with the original decision due date notified by An Bord Pleanala as being July 8, 2021. This was initially delayed until November 1, 2021 and subsequently until January 28, 2022.
Several West Waterford councillors have made submissions on the development, with the council making its own submission recommending a refusal on the proposed development.
Now, a decision on the proposed Strategic Infrastructure Development is expected in late April.
Lyrenacarriga Wind Farm, which is proposed to stretch across areas of West Waterford and East Cork, would consist of the construction of up to 17 wind turbines with a maximum overall blade tip height of up to 150 metres, with the wind farm measuring across approximately 733 hectares.
