‘Beauty Queen’ opens this weekend in Tallow

-

Brideview Drama’s first performances of ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ by Martin McDonagh takes place this Saturday night, February 12 and Sunday night, February 13 at 8pm.

The cast and crew have been working very hard since November, rehearsing this popular Irish play, in preparation for the ADCI full-length festival circuit which begins later this month.

Emer Peet takes on the role of Maureen Folan, a 40 year old single woman whose life is filled with deep loneliness and bitterness as she is trapped in an isolated part of Connemara minding her aging mother Mag Folan, played by Helen Aherne. Mag is a fierce character, hardened by her surroundings and consumed by the fear of being left alone or put into a home for the elderly. The relationship between mother and daughter is toxic, abusive and yet symbiotic, relying on each other every day.

Then Pato Dooley, played by Kris Cowming, holds a torch in the darkness as he becomes Maureen’s only ticket out of misery. However, it is not as straightforward as it may seem as Pato’s younger brother Ray, played by Eoghan Hennessy, is enlisted as a messenger boy.

This production is not suitable for younger audiences as it contains very violent and adult content. As per current government guidelines, audience members must wear masks throughout the performance.

Come and see ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ in Tallow Community Centre on Saturday Feb 12, Sunday 13th, Saturday Feb 19, Sunday 20th, Saturday Feb 26, Sunday 27th and Wednesday, March 2nd.

Tickets can be purchased on the door at Tallow Community Centre each night.
