Many ways to say ‘I love you’

-

No doubt many people will be scratching their heads in the coming days, trying to decide what gift to buy for a loved one and how best to mark the

special occasion that is Valentine’s Day.

Of course, everyone has their own individual likes and dislikes when it comes to gifts and perfect dates; following a little research in our area, TheAvondhu looked to gauge the 'on the ground' feeling in the lead up to this special day of romance - for those so inclined!

So, what might the perfect Valentine’s Day gift look like? It depends who you talk to and the status of their relationship. But making that extra effort to brighten

February 14th for your loved one, is something we should all have our eye on.

A break away from the normal routine, more or less, one man we spoke with had in mind, saying that a walk by the seaside, followed by a meal would be just perfect for him and his partner.

“Just something spontaneous!”, one mother-of-two said when approached as to her thoughts on Valentine’s. “Simple but something unexpected, and a nice dinner out for a change. We’ll have to wait and see!”

Flowers, as ever, remain a safe choice, particularly roses, which seem to be a popular choice for several of the ladies we spoke with. Though the choice is almost endless, with flower shops stocking many options to brighten the heart of your loved one.

Alternatively, following the extended period of lockdown over the past 2 years, now may be the time to return and support your local restaurant, treating your loved one to a special night out and supporting local into the bargain – there’s no shortage of quality eateries across TheAvondhu catchment area.

For something more 'alternative', why not celebrate St. Valentine’s Day by supporting the ISPCA’s Thoughtful Gift cards - a great way to tell someone how much you care for them and for all animals too. Printed cards costs €10, with three to choose from, with sales also helping the animals in the care of the ISPCA, that depend on their support until they find a home of their own.

Whether you are single, in a relationship or somewhere in between, Valentine’s reminds us to embrace the love all around us and show love and appreciation to others. If we all expressed our love and gratitude to those we care about just a little bit more often, the world would be a much brighter place. So let's start this Valentine's Day!
