Ballygiblin’s All-Ireland trail over 12 games

- BY PADDY RYAN

Since the start of the JAHC last August, Ballygiblin were involved in 12 championship matches. They accumulated a total of 19 goals and 188 points, while conceding just 6 goals and 150 points.

In all, 14 different players figured on the scoresheet. This was made up as follows: Darragh Flynn 0-89pts (62f. 4 ‘65s and 1 s/l/), Sean O’Sullivan 8-10, Joseph O’Sullivan 0-33pts (20f., 2 x 65s and 1 s/l), Colin English 2-11, Dean Barry 1-12, Mark Keane 3-4, Michael Walsh 0-13, Ryan Donegan 1-6, Dillon Sheehan 2-1, Aidan Donegan 2-1, Kieran Duggan 0-5, Cathal O’Sullivan 0-1, Jack Lewis 0-1 and Barry Coffey 0-1.

The team gave great entertainment to their large band of supporters all through lockdown. Playing an attractive brand of hurling, winning the divisional and county title, along with the Munster title, was a huge achievement. The final part of the jigsaw was reaching the All-Ireland final and playing in Croke Park. Whilst outright success eluded the side by the narrowest of margins last Saturday, all involved were satisfied that they did themselves, their families and the area proud. Huge support travelled to Croke Park, some of them for the first time.

For 2022, Ballygiblin will compete in the Co-Premier JHC along with St Catherine’s, Milford, Glen Rovers, Ballygarvan, Kilbrittain, Tracton, Argideen Rangers, Barryroe, Dripsey, St Finbarr’s and Russell Rovers. The winners of that championship will represent the county in the Munster JAHC next season.
