Good win for Kilworth in Ardmore

-

RESULTS FROM SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 5 U13 LEAGUE Ardmore 2 Kilworth Celtic 3

A last minute winner gave Kilworth the win at windswept Dysart Park in Ardmore, where the home side can feel well pleased with their effort but disappointed that they did not at least get a draw. Kilworth the league leaders played with the wind in the opening half, but found a well organised defence difficult to break down. The did hit the crossbar but Ardmore also went close before the visitors did score in the 13th minute with a strike from Bailey Browne giving them the lead. Ardmore were defending well with Cormac O Cuirrin and Killian Hagan doing well at the back along with Aaron McNamara. Kilworth grabbed a second goal from Paudie Hurley on 25 minutes leaving them 2-0 in front at the interval. Ardmore were more than holding their own against the leaders and a great strike from Seamus Twomey in the 40th minute left it game on.

Ardmore were now pressing forward and soon drew level after a corner kick broke to Cormac O’Cuirrin and his strike found the net to leave it 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining. Kilworth are deserving league leaders and they pushed forward but Ardmore held firm and might indeed have taken the lead but a Liam Clancy effort just went wide. Kilworth then came upfield and a good shot was saved by Jimmy Keevers but the rebound was forced home by Killian Ball to put Kilworth 3-2 in front.

A free kick from Padraig Foley almost brought Ardmore level but after a mighty scare Kilworth held out for a very hard earned win in a great game of football.

Ballybridge United 2 Ballyduff Rovers 1

A very good win for the home side against Ballyduff Rovers with the strong wind making good football difficult to play. Shay Feeney scored the goal for Ballyduff Rovers

Mogeely 1 Valley Rangers 2

A fine win for Valley Rangers on the road as they got the better of Mogeely. Both of these sides will be in the bottom half of the table and so will meet again in the second half of the league.

Castlebridge Celtic 3 Clashmore Ramblers 2

Both of these sides are near the bottom of the table so a close game was expected and it did not disappoint as they shared five goals. Tommy Roche and Darragh Kelleher scored for the visitors while the home team scorers were not to hand at the time of going to press.

Brideview United 1 Cappoquin 0

Just the one goal in this thriller between Brideview and Cappoquin as these two sides played out a captivating contest in Leonard Fraser Park. Again in this one both defences played well with the only goal of the game scored by Barra Alian to give the home side all three point. Both Brideview United, Cappoquin and Kilworth Celtic are all on 21 points with Brideview still to play Kilworth Celtic with Cappoquin having an extra game played with this league also set for an exciting climax in phase 2.

U15 LEAGUE PHASE 2 DIV 1 ROUND 2 Lismore 0 Ballyduff Rovers 4

Second placed Ballyduff Rovers kept the pressure on Brideview United with a comfortable win over Lismore at the Castle Farm grounds. Again no scorers have been provided from this contest.

Brideview United 8 Clashmore Ramblers 1

Billy Murphy got Brideview off the mark with a 6th minute strike from a free-kick, while Ben Sheehan quickly added a second with an assist from David Wall. Clashmore went further behind with Joe McDonnell firing home. Brideview were in control and added two further goals from Roy Nugent, with Clashmore scoring in between these goals through Darragh Ryan to trail 5-1 at the interval. In the second half Brideview continued to dominate with Ben Sheehan getting his second to leave the home side 6-1 in front. Clashmore were having little joy in attach and went further behind with Adam Pratt scoring for the home side. The scoring was concluded with David Wall getting the 8th goal for Brideview who now need just one point from their final game to retain their title.

U15 LEAGUE PHASE 2 DIV 2 ROUND 1 Mogeely 6 Valley Rangers 0

The home side dominated this game, leading 2-0 at the interval and adding a further four goals in the second half. Credit Valley Rangers who like Ardmore have struggled this season but they are fielding which is at least getting games for their players. Scorers for Mogeely were Alex McSweeney (2) Ben Cooney, Charlie Howard, Finn Connaughton and Finn Ansbro.

Ardmore 1 Inch United 2

Just a kick of the ball separated these sides at Dysart Park with the visitors just shading the outcome after a hard fought battle. The visitors looked the stronger side early on and scored their opener in the 12th minute with a good finish to put them in front. Ardmore who had the use of the strong breeze in the opening half fought their way back into contention with a goal from Billy Broderick bringing the sides level. Both sides had chances with Inch United going back in front just before half-time.

Strangely there were no further goals as the Ardmore defence coped well with the conditions but rarely looked like scoring in attack and so it is the visitors that take the three points. Ardmore will face Mogeely next before then playing Valley Rangers in their final league match.
