From dry suit to wedding gown for one Blackwater diver
Congratulations to Judith O’Brien, Castlelyons who recently temporarily hung up her dry suit and cylinders for a wedding dress. Judith got married last Saturday to Mr Mattie Sexton of Blarney Tower, on behalf of all her friends and dive buddies at Blackwater Sub Aqua we wish you both the very best and a life full of happiness.
Your application Judith for a leave of absence has been granted for the honeymoon and we look forward in seeing you back in the water soon.
Blackwater Sub Aqua Search and Recovery Unit were joint benefactors with Fermoy Tidy Town from the gate takings at the Fermoy FC and Cobh Ramblers last Sunday. The game didn’t go as planned for the home team but the great turnout at the game got value for their money with eight goals in the game. It was a great honour to have been selected by Fermoy Soccer Club for their generosity. Local business McCarthy Insurance provides sponsorship for both Fermoy FC and Cobh Ramblers. Charlie McCarthy and Paul Kavanagh were on hand to present the Charlie McCarthy Challenge Cup. Even with some blustery showers throughout the game the local supporters braved the weather in great crowds. Congratulation to Fermoy Soccer Club in securing major funding for the ongoing development at Carrig Park.
On diving news training continues for club members with three members hitting the river on Sunday morning to get in some familiarisation training on full face masks and communications. Graham Burke assistant SAR Officer with Timmy Carey and
Peter Whelan had a forty minute dive below Carrigabrick Bridge. With visibility down to approx two feet the use of underwater communication is vital to ensure dive search lines are maintained. Water temperatures were a low eight degrees. The new trainee class of One
Star and Two Star divers commences this week with 12 new candidates
on board this ten week course. We look forward in seeing and report
ing the progress of this course.
