CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW

The 2022 Co Op Superstores Cork County Hurling Championship draws took place at Pairc Ui Chaoimh last Tuesday night (February 8th). We were drawn in Group C of the Premier Intermediate hurling along with, Ballinhassig, Ballincollig and newly promoted Castlemartyr. There are sure to be some intriguing contests here.

We only have to look back to last year for our last competitive fare against both Ballincollig and Ballinhassig. On September 12th an injury time pointed free from Noel McNamara earned Kilworth a share of the spoils against Ballincollig (Kilworth 1-20 Ballincollig 0-23) in a cracking championship opener at Carrignavar. Following a win over Aghada in Round 2 we faced Ballinhassig in our final group game on October 9th. At the end of a titanic and pulsating battle under lights in Glantane, Kilworth emerged winners 2-12 to 0-17, to top the group, and progress to the quarter final.

Both again will provide testing and tough opponents as will Castlemartyr fresh from two promotions in 2021, winning the Intermediate A and Lower Intermediate grades in the one calendar year. Some mouth-watering games in prospect to look forward to later in the summer and into Autumn when championship commences.

LEAGUE FIXTURES

The 2022 Red FM Hurling league fixture programme was also issued last week. Kilworth are in Division 2, Group A along with; Ballinhassig, Ballyhea, Blackrock, Blarney, Carrigaline, Courcey Rovers, Kildorrery and Watergrasshill. Our opening game will take place on the weekend of March 13th in Kilworth against our firstround championship opponents Ballinhassig.
