The Avondhu

Premier Junior draw

-

It’s not even 2 weeks since our All-Ireland appearance but our thoughts have already switched to the 2022 season. The draw for the newly formed Premier Junior took place last week, with 3 groups of 4. We are in group B along with Ballygarvan, Argideen Rangers and Dripsey.

Ballygarvan reached last year’s semi-final and were beaten by 4 points by the eventual winners of the Lower Intermediate Lisgoold. They narrowly beat Argideen Rangers by a point in the quarter-finals. Dripsey on the other hand were well beaten in the group stages by Kilbrittain and Argideen Rangers. The championship is due to kick off at the end of July after the county season is completed. It’s based on points and scoring difference across the 3 groups so every game and score is vital in reaching the latter stages.

Group A: Kilbrittain, Milford, Barryroe, St Finbarr’s. Group B: Ballygarvan, Argideen Rangers, Dripsey, Ballygiblin. Group C: Glen Rovers, Tracton, St Catherine’s, Russell Rovers.

LEAGUE 2022

In the meantime, we will have the league to look forward to in March with our first game a home fixture against one of our group opponents Ballygarvan. The league is made up of teams for our grade but also the grade above so this will be tough competition for us. We will also be taking part in the Avondhu Division 3 league. 27 March at 12.00 – home v Ballygarvan. 10 April at 12.00 – away v Castlemartyr. 24 April at 12.00 – home v Glen Rovers. 7 May at 16.00 – away v Tracton. 21 May at 16.00 – home v Cloughduv. 18 June at 16.00 – away v Sarsfields.

CORK HURLERS AND MARK KEANE

Well done to the Cork hurlers and to Mark Keane on a great win last Sunday v Offaly. How brilliant was it to see a Ballygiblin man start for the Cork senior team. Mark started at full forward and was unlucky not to score Cork’s third goal in the opening 15 minutes, though we did score the rebound. He was moved to the half-forward line in the second half where he was more involved and scored a fantastic point on the run and was unlucky to not have a least another 2 on the board. It was a great first league game for him and we hope to see more of him in the coming matches.

CHARITY HAIR SHAVING

Well done to Davi Norris, Fionn Herlihy and our coach Ronan Dwane on raising a huge amount of money for Cork Arc Cancer Support House and Motor Neurone charities by getting their heads shaved. The amount was heading towards a whopping €8,000, fantastic stuff by the lads and thanks to everyone who contributed. Ronan finally bidding farewell to his flowing locks, presume he will leave it grow again until we win the All-Ireland.

FLAGS AND BUNTING

Thanks to all our volunteers who took down the flags and bunting around the town. It’s now stored safely until is needed hopefully later in the year.
