Sports Capital Grant approved

-

We were delighted to be informed on Friday last that our application for a Sports Capital Grant had been approved for €150,000. This is to help finance the development of a full length floodlit astro pitch which will be of enormous benefit to the club. Great thanks is due to the team involved in putting the application together and in making such a strong case for funding. The fact that we have been granted the maximum amount under the scheme speaks volumes for the quality of the application. While the grant is of huge benefit we will still require additional finance and we will be announcing details of fundraising activities shortly. There is still a lot of work to be done before the project can commence but we are confident we can get the support of the community in helping us achieve this.

MCCARTHY CUP

Last Sunday’s game between Fermoy and Cobh Ramblers proved to be a very enjoyable game. The League of Ireland side emerged victorious by 5-3 in the end. They led 2 nil at half time with Fermoy keeper Gavin Dawson making a great penalty save in the first half.

The second half saw plenty of goals with Cobh adding a third before 2 goals in quick succession by Sean Desmond had Fermoy back in the game. Sean went on to complete his hat trick before the end with Cobh completing the scoring just before the end. Thanks to all who came to the game and we were delighted to split the gate receipts between The Fermoy Sub Aqua Club and Tidy Towns Association in recognition for all the work they do for the town.

CORK YOUTH LEAGUE U18 Carrigaline 4 Fermoy 4

Fermoy came from behind to grab a valuable point. Having gone 2-0 down early Fermoy were chasing the game most of the night. In the second half we got back into it with a goal from Rua but minutes later conceded a 3rd shortly after Seweryn grabbed a second. Fermoy pushed but Carrigaline punished again to make it 4-2. Fermoy emptied the bench and all 4 subs made a difference as we tried to get back into the game with 15 minutes to go Seweryn scored a cracking free kick from 30 yards. Fermoy now pushed forward and were rewarded with a fabulous finish to the bottom corner from Lee Walsh. Not our best performance but came up against a very good Carrigaline side and give credit to the lads to stay unbeaten and not give up.

U12 GIRLS

The girls travelled to Riverstown (and beyond) to take on their second team in the local Cup. From the very start Fermoy were on top and 2 early goals from Sarah O’Connor had them on their way. Amy Kearney and Amerya Lavery added more goals and by half-time the game was wrapped up with Amy and Sarah adding to the scoreline. Many of the goals came from down the right wing through great play from Aideen Wall and she also scored before half-time. We changed the team around for the second half and continued to be well on top but credit also to the Riverstown girls who never gave up despite the scoreline.
