Annual John Treacy Dungarvan 10 mile road race

-

Sunday, February 6th saw the first major road race of the 2022 season take place down in Dungarvan. Ever popular, this race was the 30th edition hosted by West Waterford AC, named after the great John Treacy and as usual drew a huge entry with approximately 2,500 competitors. The weather was changeable on the day, with some intermittent showers, and a bit of sunshine in between. As ever, the wind was a factor to be reckoned with! But the race went off without a hitch, considering the number of runners.

Winner of the men’s race on the day was Hugh Armstrong of Ballina AC, with the women’s race being won by Aoife Cooke of Eagle AC. Grange Fermoy AC had a turnout of 39 athletes lining up to take on the tough course, and there were a good amount of personal bests. Our runners were led home by Mike Lyons in a great time of 57.45, John Murphy next home in 59.30, Gary Clerkin in 61.19. Following on from these we had Brian O’Hagan 62.38, John Hartnett 62.43, Alan Clancy 63.22, Liam Sheehy 64.22, Mike Walsh 65.26, John Gray 65.54, Dave Bartley 68.34, Ellen Hanley 69.13, Brian O’Connor 69.13, Conor McElvaney 69.28, Mike Ennis 69.40, Joan Ennis 69.52, Darren Flynn 72.34, John Delaney 73.29, Keith Buckley 74.14, Peter O’Brien 74.38, Eileen Finn 75.14, Marina Seymour 78.07, Francis Morrison 80.40, Mags Goggin 82.08, Ashley Geary 82.26, Ronan McDonald 82.41, Geraldine Hartnett 82.55, Matthew Bermingham 83.55, Peter Dineen 83.56, Ciara Byrne 86.33, Willie Cody 87.13, Des White 87.31, Sheila Maggorian 89.02, Emilija Dorgan 89.21, Ken Power 89.23, Mike Pratt 92.07 (well done Mike you’re getting back to your usual self!), Mary Clare Healy 96.54, Eithe Bermingham 99.34, Angela O’Mahony 106.46, and last but not least our veteran 77 year old Maggie Dunne just happy to finish in 128.06. Thanks to West Waterford AC for hosting the race, and thanks to all the stewards and helpers on the day.
