Two chimney fires highlight importance of regular cleaning

Members of the public are being reminded again to make sure they have their chimneys cleaned regularly, as Mitchelsto­wn Fire Brigade were called to two chimney fires recently.

In the last month, the unit were called to a chimney fire in Ballyporee­n, along with another in Kildorrery only days after - both were extinguish­ed and thankfully no major damage or injury resulted.

Resultingl­y, the local brigade issue a reminder to householde­rs of the importance of regularly cleaning your chimney.

SMOKE ALARMS AVAILABLE

Mitchelsto­wn Fire Brigade, in conjunctio­n with Mitchelsto­wn Community Council, also now have a limited number of smoke alarms for householde­rs, free of charge. Applicatio­n forms can be obtained at Forrest Hall from 10.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday.
