LOCAL STUDENTS JOIN NEW YOUTH ADVISORY PANEL

- MARIAN ROCHE

Scoil Pól students Darragh Shinnors, Linnea Hove and Shane Shinnors are newly-appointed members of the Rural Youth Advisory Panel (YAP), part of the ‘Be Well’ mental health team in Limerick Youth Service.

The overall aim of the project will involve the development of a rural outreach mental health support scheme for young people aged 14-18 years in County Limerick. The YAP initiative specifically focuses on giving young people a voice and gives them the opportunity to participate in mental health work.

The YAP members are advocates for young people’s mental health, and will get involved in mental health programmes, mental health campaigns and other initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in the community, and is an exciting new project for these young people to embark on.

The fifth year students will join the new panel, developed by the new Rural Youth Mental Health worker, Melissa Bone. The rural youth mental health project is funded by the Toy Show Appeal and supported by The Community Foundation for Ireland.
