Tallow footpath works to continue in better weather

- KATIE GLAVIN

Active Travel works are to continue, that will see the completion of a new footpath in Tallow when the weather improves, according to Waterford City and County Council officials.

The footpath, which is to be extended from the Tallow to Youghal Road onto the Michael Prendergast Road, connecting with the local school, has already had a section completed before Christmas.

Seeking an update at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan Lismore District, local councillor John Pratt noted that there were some doubts amongst locals that works would continue.

“Some people are under the belief that it’s not going to go ahead and that it’s stopped,” Cllr Pratt said.

The Tallow councillor stated that he wished to reassure the public that works on the new footpath would continue and that the project would be completed at an appropriate time.

WEATHER A FACTOR

Director of Roads, Gabriel Hynes, confirmed this, adding that once works resume, a traffic management system would be put in place in Tallow.

“We haven’t been putting pressure on the contractor because of weather,” Mr Hynes said. “If he starts later it’s better because there will be less disruption and longer evenings.”

Last year, an allocation of €50,000 saw a new footpath put in place near the Grotto in the town, however, works then stopped. At the time, a €200,000 allocation was cited for the 2022 works to see the project through to completion.
