‘It’s Just A Job’ for David O’Brien

-

A young Fermoy man will be making his debut, both as an actor and a writer, when he stages his creation entitled ‘It’s Just A Job’, in his home town for four performances from March 23rd.

David O’Brien, who uses the stage name David Deacon, comes from Labbacallee, midway between Glanworth and Fermoy.

“I started work on the show in late November of last year once I had enough money saved to fund the show and I had dates confirmed with The Palace Theatre in Fermoy for this March. I am directing and also acting in the play and am represented by Bolt Productions,” David told The Avondhu this week.

A Drama and Theatre graduate with a masters from MTU in Public Relations & New Media, he started writing this play in November 2020 and now looks forward to seeing it on the stage of The Palace Theatre in Fermoy Community Youth Centre. David has already graced the stage in 10 plays and has directed a short play that he wrote in college which won him an award for best writing at the UCC Dramatic Society awards.

Joining him on stage will be Kilworth native Alison McCormack who, at the beginning of the month, successfully staged her own production of ‘DNA’ by Dennis Kelly in the Cork Arts Theatre. This was also the inaugural production for the Four Faced Theatre Company, founded by Alison herself.

‘IT’S JUST A JOB’

‘It’s Just a Job’ is about a friendship set within a typical working day at an office. The story follows Barry and Niamh right from when they clock into the office at the start of their day. Barry just wants to do his work with no hassle. However, his co-worker Niamh has some different ideas about how she will get through the day.

From insulting his appearance to asking pointless questions to threatening to report him to their boss, Niamh torments Barry until finally, he has had enough. All before their lunch break, no less.

Save the dates - Wednesday March 23 to Saturday March 26. 8pm nightly.

Booking now open at Fermoy Community Youth Centre box office - 025-32042.
