Signage audit encouraged

-

An audit of roadside signage across the West Waterford area was called for recently.

Local councillor James Tobin called on the council to carry out an audit in the Dungarvan-Lismore electoral area in order to upgrade existing and replace any missing signage, while also removing any unnecessary signage across the area.

“There are poles rusting, there are signs missing and now with the changes we are making, there are signs up that could be removed,” Cllr Tobin said.

SQUARE POLES

Requesting that an audit be carried out, Cllr Tobin also asked that any poles being replaced see square-shaped poles installed rather than round or circular ones.

“If we’re replacing the poles, can we replace them with square ones so that people can’t twist the signs around and send people the wrong way?” Cllr Tobin asked.

Director of Roads with Waterford City and County Council, Gabriel Hynes, stated that if Tidy Towns groups or other community groups wish to compile a list of signs in their area that need to be addressed, it would be welcomed by the council.

“If community groups or Tidy Towns come back to us with issues, we will address those shortfalls in signage,” Mr Hynes confirmed.
